Ten Ways to Destroy the Imagination of Your Child

Ten Ways to Destroy the Imagination of Your Child by Anthony Esolen is the title of a book I read recently. It was such a good book. I had to read parts of it aloud to my older kids, and they also appreciated the wisdom and humor of this author.

As a result of reading this book, we have a new family rule, "No screens after supper." It is far too easy to let the children go become engrossed in their various screens. Since implementing our new rule, board games have been dusted off. Books have been read. Pictures have been drawn. Snow forts have been built. And the ping pong table has been cleared off and put to its original intended use.

In the process, conflicts have abounded and been resolved. When the children are forced to spend time together, they either have to figure out how to get along with each other, or be lonely.

I highly recommend reading this book. It will either encourage you or challenge you to change. Either way, it's worth reading.
